There have been many new additions to the Wheatland school district this year, though one of the biggest changes came to the library.
Mrs.Burke, Wheatland School’s Librarian, stated that, when improving the library, her goal was to make it more “usable/accessible” for high school and middle school students as well as to keep it modern.
Mrs.Burke listed some of the awesome changes as “new furniture, new variety of books, new programs, more space, and room for more clubs to hold meetings.”
Lit Loot is also something new that Mrs.Burke is doing. What is that, you might ask? Students can sign up with Mrs. Burke in the Library by filling out a short form that describes their likes and dislikes when it comes to reading. Students are then given a box with a book, a review form, and other small treasures inside. Students must then read the book before returning the book, the box, and the review form back to Mrs. Burke. The students are allowed to keep the other treasures that are in the box. Students are allowed to participate in the Lit Loot only once, but it is still likely to spark an interest in other books available in the library for free.
Jacob Crawford (Junior) described the improved library as a lot more comfortable. He also added “they’ve improved the overall look in the library, and cast a wider net to the audience of readers.”
Taylor Gant echoed the sentiments of many dual credit college students when she said, “the library is just a lot more comfortable now.” Many students were asked if Mrs.Burke achieved her goal of making the library more usable for high school and middle school students, and all of the students replied with a resounding “yes!”.
So if you have an extra minute or two, stop by the library and look at the improvements.
