Our Wheatland Mules boys basketball team participated in the Humansville Tournament November 28th through December 3rd.  The Mules defeated Fair Play (74-47) and Hermitage (47-43) before taking on Humanville and winning the tournament with a score of 43-33.

Assistant Coach Morlan commented that, “The tournament was full of ups and downs each game, but the team persevered and came out on top.We believe that it is a nice accomplishment, but only the first step in reaching the goals we have set for our program.”

When asked what he thought of the team’s experience in the tournament, Senior Davin Sawyer said, “We played Humansville for the championship and it was a tough fight to the end…We played very well defensively which is the biggest part in our success. We also shot free throws decently well which gave us a good score advantage while the time was stopped.”

Mules fans packed the stands to support their team which contributed to the team’s motivation.  “The atmosphere of a small packed gym for a championship game is great for basketball,” said Assistant Coach Morlan, expressing the appreciation that the entire team felt for the support of the Wheatland community.

Senior Davin Sawyer and Senior Bodee Fielder were also selected for the All Tournament Team.  The All-Tournament Team is a list of the top players from the tournament as voted on by the coaches and given to the players judged to have performed the best during the championship game.

When asked about the season ahead, Assistant Coach Morlan explained that, “Attitude can always affect how a team plays and ours is no different.  We want to be focused and take our season one game at a time and not look too far ahead.  Winning the tournament was a goal of ours from the beginning of the season.  We believe that we will continue to improve as the season progresses.”
