The Wheatland Lady Mules are coming off a 2022-2023 season in which they posted a 19-9 record, falling in the District Championship to Macks Creek. Though the Mules’ 67.86 win percentage certainly represents a successful year, the Lady Mules have their sights set higher for the upcoming season.

Head Coach Jerimiah Bryan, assisted by Alicia Morlan, has a very specific goal for this season. “Our goal this year is to win a District Championship,” said Bryan. The last time the Lady Mules did that, they went on to make the Final Four, finishing third in the Class 1 State Tournament in 2018. The Lady Mules are returning all 5 starters from last season. “We aren’t going to rely on one individual to lead us,” said Coach Bryan. “We have leaders in every class.” That starts with seniors Chloe Pearson, Taylor Gant, and Jaz’Myn Baldwin. Other returners include junior Kiarah Blation, and sophomores Charley Crouch, Jaycee Dampier, Macy Pearson, and Alyssa Roberts. “Freshman Kate Murphy will step in immediately and fight for a ton of minutes,” said Bryan. Coach Bryan says the Lady Mules plan to stay true to their identity from last season: “Last year we were one of the best defensive teams in the area, so this year we need to continue our defensive mindset, while improving offensively.”

The Lady Mules will be competing in the Hermitage, Skyline, and Osceola girl’s basketball tournaments throughout the season. Wheatland’s season will open up on November 20th at Climax Springs. The Lady Mules will take on the Climax Springs Lady Cougars at 5:00 PM, and the Wheatland boys basketball team will take on the Cougars at 7:00. The Lady Mules are working hard in practice, so when they take the floor in Climax, they will be ready.
